1. Check the battery condition
So when you are shopping around for a used cellphone in Kelowna make sure you check the condition of the battery. Most devices will have an option in the menu that tell you the life of the battery. Used Apple iPhones for sure have this in the setting menu.
For Samsung devices just follow the directions in this link.
It will run a diagnostics on the phone including the battery which is a great feature.
Kelowna Used Phones always recommends making sure the used unlocked Apple iPhone or Samsung Smartphone seems to be operating the way it should. Do some testing with device and check all the functions are working before handing over any money.
2. Check for any visable liquid/corrosion damage
A quick check you can do when buying that used cellphone in Kelowna is look for any obvious liquid damage or corrosion on the device. The easiest part to check is the charging port. If the charging port looks green inside of it, its usually a sign of corrosion and likely exposed to some liquid at one point., Now most newer devices claim they are water resistant, however we have seen many devices that been liquided damaged inside with component damages. When purchasing a used cellphone most people are selling a device that works but how do you really know? This is why you may spend a little more purchasing a used phone for us with peace of mind that it works, has warranty and you can come back for technical support.
3. Asking the right questions.
These are things you can ask the person you are buying the phone from.
Best practices when buying a used cell phone.
Make sure that the phone you are buying works properly and has no underlying issues. This is something we see very commonly. People sell used cellphones or smartphones with issues that aren't noticeable right away. Bring a list of functions to test when you meet the person. The other option is to purchase a used device from a store like Kelowna Used Phones as we test the devices and offer a premium warranty at no extra cost.
Make sure the device is not stolen and is not on the Blacklist. You can check the phones IMEI which is the serial # of the phone. On the dial pad press *#06# and go to https://www.devicecheck.ca and enter the IMEI and it will tell you if it is on the list. Keep in mind that the device may be so freshly stolen it's not on the list yet as this takes 2 days to get on there. If you don't feel good about the purchase, the person or the deal don't purchase it and spend the couple extra dollars and buy phone a reputable store like ours or others out there so you avoid this issue. If it's on the Blacklist you will never be able to get on the network to make a phone call as all the networks block that serial #l
Make sure there's no iCloud lock on it or Google lock. This is probably just as important as checking to see if it's stolen. If there's iCloud lock or Google lock on it and the device has been factory reset, you will not be able to get to the home screen and make the device a paper weight literally. When we started selling used unlocked cell phones at Kelowna Cell Repair it was because we would see at least 1 person a day that got scammed. So, this is why we puts steps in motion make sure the Kelowna consumers would no longer get burned or scammed out or their hard-earned money buying a used unlocked smartphone. All our devices are listed at kelownausedphones.com. We are the number #1 used unlockedc cellphone and smartphone retailer in Kelowna.
1.Selecting the brand.
So, you are in the market for a used cell phone for sale in Kelowna and not sure where to start. You will need to narrow down a brand you will want. So, the most popular ones are Apple, Samsung, Google and LG, however there are many others out there. If you own Apple product already, we recommend staying going with an iPhone as it run iOS and you will be very familiar to this. All the other brands out there run Android OS. We recommend going with a brand that offers replacement parts and that will be the ones we listed above. Going with some of the less popular brands or no name brands can be a disaster as some replacement’s parts are just not available. At Kelowna Used Cell Phones Inc. we only sell unlocked used Apple iPhones and unlocked used Samsung smartphones. These two brands are definitely the most popular in North America and replacement parts are always available.
2. Selecting the right storage capacity
So, by now you will have selected a brand you will want but you will need to narrow down a model and how much storage capacity you will want. Devices come in many different storage capacities and you will need to ask yourself how much data you are planning on keeping on the phone. For example, if you take many photos you will want a device with larger capacity. 1,000 photos are approx. 5 GB depending on the quality of photos and make and model. Most devices range for 32GB to 512GB of internal storage however, many other devices other than Apple iPhones will allow you to install an additional memory card for more storage. We sell many used Apple iPhones in Kelowna and our most popular storage size is 32GB or 64GB as the pricing goes up considerably when selecting a higher capacity model. Even if you don't take a lot of photos you may be installing large Apps, downloading large attachments via email ect. Most people are low to medium users and do not need hight capacity devices
3. Selecting the right model
We always ask our customers if they really need the latest and greatest or do, they just want that. The latest and greatest device will always be very expensive and rarely be found used. There is a considerable cost savings in going with a used device. We at Kelowna Used Cell Phones mainly carry devices that are a few years old with almost no wear and tear on them. All of our devices are short term corporate returns and in fantastic shape. They all come with our 90-day KCR warranty and all have had the KCR 50-point inspection. So, choosing a model that will stay current for the next couple years is always important. For example, the iPhone 6 series will no longer receive new iOS updates as Apple is no longer supporting them. For this reason, we don't sell anything older than iPhones 7 as we are confident Apple will not make these obsolete for at least a few more years. Samsung devices has the same problems as at one point you will not be able to install the new Android OS. The Samsung S Series that is still supported with the newest Android OS version are the S8 series. I must mention that you can still own and use older devices but just wouldn't get any new updates and features. Kelowna Cell Repair Inc and Kelowna Used Phones generally only sell unlocked Samsung S8 series and newer and new Samsung A11 models. Phones are for sale at many places in Kelowna including Marketplace and classifieds however you may want to read one of our other blogs to know what you’re up against. Any question can always be answered by emailing and calling us. We are always helpful regardless if you are purchasing a phone from us or not.
why buy a Used apple iphone vs new
1. Cost savings
A new Apple iPhone these days costs well over $1500 and that's sure a lot more than it used to be. Networks are not giving you free upgrades as they used to back in the day. No you must finance them or lease them. We at Kelowna Used Cell Phones offer premium used Apple iPhones at a fraction of the cost of a new one. All our devices are factory unlocked and come with a 90 day warranty and have been fully check out. You never run into a scenario that a device will be blacklisted after you purchase it or have it be iCloud locked.
2. Saving the enviroment
Buy a used Apple iPhone vs a new one saves our planets resources. Every day thousands of device get thrown into our landfill and our valuble resources are mined to create new devices. The question you must ask yourself is do you need the most update Apple iPhone vs a device that is a couple years old. The device that is couple years old is still an excellent device with amazing features and options and there is really no reason to have the lastest and greatest. Kelowna Cell Repair and Kelowna used cell phones inc. believe strongly in saving the planet one cell phone at a time.
3. Problems with new models.
When new iPhones come out they have only been tested in factories and not in the field which can cause problems for the end consumer. We believe going with a used unlocked Apple iPhone is better as its been out for sometime and has a track record. For example the iPhone 7 model has experienced many audio chip failures when it was released years ago and this wasn't caught untill many months of lauch. This audio chip failure was a huge disaster for Apple and many customers had to deal with sending devices back to Apple for warranty work and stuck being without a device for weeks while this was repaired. Our best selling used unlock Apple iPhone in Kelowna is the iPhone 8 64GB. We sell them for $425 and come with a 90 day warranty. We consider ourself the premium used cellphone store in Kelowna only offering the best quality devices that are top notch.
1. Make sure it's not stolen
So your going through the classifieds or marketplace looking for that used cell phone in Kelowna and you found something that you wish to purchase. So a very common mistake we seen regularly at our shop (Kelown Cell Repair Inc.) was customers bringing in a used cell phone they purchased but it had no cell phone signal. This was the case once their sim card was installed. This was caused by the device being Blacklisted on every mobilty network in North America.
So you may ask how does a used cell phone get Blacklisted? So the most common reason would be that a customer looses their cell phone and reports it lost and stolen and just like that it's on the Blacklist. Only the existing owner can get this removed of off this list and it's quite difficult for them to do this. The other way a device can Blacklisted if an account is delinquent enough for non payment or fraud. If a person passes away and the contract is terminated the carriers will still Blacklist the device.
When purchasing a used cell phone the problem is that at the time of purchase the device may not be on the Blacklist yet as sometimes it can take a day or two to get on there. Kelowna's used cell phone market is good however you must be very cautious and do a lot of dueligence. The site to check if a device is on the Blacklist https://www.devicecheck.ca/check-status-device-canada/ . This is why we started selling used cell phones in Kelowna, used Apple iPhones and used Samsung smartphones as we seen too many customers taken adavantage of and scammed. We guarantee that this will never happen to a device purchased from our store as we only purchase device from a specific wholesaler that is trusted and reputable. The devices we are selling are not customer purchased devices and not refurbished but short term corporate returns as new condition.
2. Make sure it doesn't have an iCloud lock or Google lock
Another huge problem in the used cell phone sales market in Kelowna is people selling devices that have iCloud locks on it and Google lock (commonly known as FRP) on it. When buying that used Apple iPhone or used Andriod device in Kelowna you must check that it's free and clear of any of these locks. Even if the device looks like it has been wiped you may think you're in the clear however this clould be not the case. On either an Apple iOS or Andriod OS get it of off the activation screen and to a point where you can see all of the Apps ect on the main page/screen. If it has an iCloud lock or Google lock you wouldn't be able to get to this point.
3. Make sure its working properly
So you just met up with the person your buying the device from. You must make sure the device is working and functioning as it should. Test the majority of the smartphones features. For example the camera, Wifi, mic, speakers, make a call just to name a few. Kelowna Cell Repair Inc has always been great place to meet the person selling the used cell phone as they will do a complimentary check on the basic features on the phone free of charge. There are many people out there unfortunatley that sell used cell phones with underlying issues. The problem is most people sell their used phone won't offer your money back as it sold as is. If they don't want to meet at our shop or can't alternatively we'd recommend meeting people at their house and bring someone with you so that you could go back there in case its a complete lemon. These are useful tips we think you can use if you do purchase a used cell phone in Kelowna. We have a selection of used Apple iPhones and used Samsung smartphones and everything can be found at kelownausedphones.com
